mixed views August 25, 2010 A. Burton (UK) The features of the unit are far better than some other wake up lamps however the build quality and the reliability of this unit is a real let down. Firstly the packing was good, the unit itself had some cosmetic marks like scratches and chips. Out of the box it worked initially, no buzzing, light worked, radio worked, bird song worked, however after using it for one morning the radio died, I found that to get the radio working again I had to disconnect the unit from the mains for at least 10 minutes and reset it, anything less didn't work and thats with the light off and the unit cool. This radio issue happened a number of times, after the lamp had been used and I just got fed up of unplugging and resetting it so am returning it. Pity really, if the unit didn't have serious reliability problems it would have been a great buy.
Tweet way to wake up July 6, 2010 Suzie Scribe (Basildon,England) Despite initial problems wrestling the bulb out of the packaging, this proved easy to set up. The light is adjustable for brightness and looks good. I settled on the birdsong option. The tweeting gets a bit more frantic nearer to wake-up time, but I am not sure it would be enough to wake you without the light. The time display is reasonably clear for the short sighted to check on the time, but I find I have to turn it 45 degrees at night to stop its digital glow distracting me from sleep.
All in all, pretty good.
Smooth wake up June 24, 2010 L. Taylor I like to listen to the birds in the morning! Very smooth wake up call!

I bought the light alarm to replace one I had earlier by a different manufacturer. I must say, the Philips one was a disappointment all round.
1. Appearance: The whole product has a cheap feel to it and is not exactly stylish. It is also rather tall and shapeless, however, without much weight to it, so it falls over easily.
2. Setting the Alarm: Setting the alarm anew (after having completely turned it off) is a pain: lenghty and awkward. It also can not really be done if anyone else near you is already asleep, since it involves the alarm clock having to 'demonstrate' the highest setting you desire for waking you, i.e. full light and full volume.
3. The Alarm Sounds: I only ever used the beep alarm, since the radio could never be tuned properly and the 'nature sounds' are so artificial that they certainly did not appeal to me. The loudspeaker leaves very much to be desired. In fact, the in-built speakers of my lap-top are of a better quality...
4. I regretted buying the product in the first place and rarely used it except as an actual dimmer lamp. Then, to add insult to injury (did it notice how unloved it was?), it died without warning after about 1.5 years. I know it is still under warrenty, but I doubt I will bother having it repaired.
My advice: Look for a different make/model.
Great way to wake up gently May 17, 2010 N. Wright This beats a blarring alarm to jump start your day and starts the day off much more gently.
